Note: Despite having a site existing on the domain I think this *is* an Install/Upgrade issue.

Somehow when uninstalling a Mod I managed to basically screw the site. I get an error message from display.php telling me there is an error which turns out to be left over code from the uninstall.

I'm wondering if it is possible to simply overwrite the existing software with a new install such that it keeps the database, boards, membership lists etc extant, but renews all the other elements of the site.

I'm sure I've seen this suggestion made elsewhere but I'm not sure it would work or if it did, if it would solve my current issue... hence asking for help.

Edit: by the way, the 'Tiny Portal' Mod still works fine so members can communicate through the SHoutbox while we work through this. :)

Large upgrade package. Remove settings.php and the upgrade.php stuff. Unleash that to overwrite your site files. Reinstall mods which should still be listed.

Alternatively, just overwrite that one file. But from your other topic, I'm also thinking you could reverse the edits that mod did. Sounds like you're not comfortable with doing that.

I'm seriously not the slightest bit confident I can edit php without utterly wrecking the entire thing but I'm prepared to try the mostly 'mechanical' process of following the instructions to install the 'large upgrade package'.

To be honest over the past 9 years I've had to rebuild the site several times because I've messed up an install or similar and the membership has collapsed because of it. If I do it again I think I may as well give up entirely. But it's worth a stab.

Thanks for the advice... I'll go get the files and get on with it. :D

Problem solved (more or less). I *do* now have access to the forum Admin section so can install those Mods we still use.

I have yet to sort out *why* the Mod failed to function (and failed to uninstall properly) but at least we're motoring again.

Many thanks for the assistance. :D
