SMTP mail settings

I have tried all the things suggested that I can find. I have entered the the correct mail settings provided by my mail provider - I have set SSL where it should - I have the port numbers correct - my mail is working fine in other programs but SMF just will not send out emails. Does anyone have any ideas. I have tried ssl://mail.myprovider.com - I have entered ports 465 and 587 but neither work - I have tried not using ssl but no change - i have used by full email address as user name as well as the short name but nothing - any suggestions welcome?

OK - sorted it out - ended up working when I used port 587 without ssl - just a lot of trial and error
