Default Board Profile Permissions for various Membergroups

I notice that the Default Board Profile Permissions are not the same for Guests, Moderators and admin-defined Membergroups. Why is that so? And when I then look at Board Permissions and see [Default] listed next to them... which Default is that: Guests default, Global Moderator default? Or is it the set of settings and options that apply to whatever membergroup the user belongs to?


In other words, is it such that if I am browsing the forum as a Guest then Guest Defaults apply to me, and if I log in as a Global Moderator then this membergroup's Default permissions apply?

each "profile" has a full set of defined permissions PER GROUP.

so, if [default] is listed, that means that the [default] profile is being used and the permissions defined for EACH GROUP under the default profile will be applied.

you seem to be confused by the "tree"


[default] is the PROFILE name.  There are no permissions in the default profile itself -- it is a container for EVERY MEMBERGROUP

So,
guests have specific permissions under the default profile
regular members have specific permissions under the default profile
every membergroup can have specific permissions under the default profile.

You can also create other profiles and assign boards to use one of those profiles
in that case,
guests have specific permissions under the custom profile
regular members have specific permissions under the custom profile
every membergroup can have specific permissions under the custom profile.


within each profile, you can define the permissions of EACH GROUP.
There are other, precreated profiles like "read-only"

Oh, I believe I got it now: the keyword in your explanation was "container". I can use this container and define permissions for each group, or I can create my own container (call it "mydefault") and assign whatever permissions I see fit for each member group in this container, then assign this profile to the boards (again, if and when I wish).
