I don't use them. Does anyone? lol

removing them reduces SMF download size too...

just a thought... not a big deal, but a suggestion anyway. :)

If I'm not mistaken, it was discussed a while back to replace them with something more modern.

Have cartoon characters. They're kinda timeless.

Dunno about copyright issues, though.

Mind you, wouldn't having actors and musicians, essentially, need copyright clearance?

If the original photos were offered under a license that allowed re-use, probably not. Given the size and manipulations it could be argued as a fair use defense if it came to that. Not sure how well that would play out, however.

Cartoon characters would be a bit worse of a situation as they are often trademarked.
