I'm running the latest version of SMF 2.0.12, and, for what it's worth, I can send PMs just fine, and have received PMs as well, but a few members are claiming the following error:

When they try to send a PM, the software indicates that the message box is empty.

This sounds like user error.  Is it just user error?  The members in question are able to PM me just fine, so I strongly suspect it may be just user error on their part.

I have ensured the MYSQL databases have no errors and did all the necessary 'housekeeping', but I must admit I am at my wits' end regarding this mystery.  I humbly ask for advice regarding this.

I have encountered  this error message when creating a new thread.  I enabled the "Enable basic HTML in posts" (Admin - Forum - Bulletin board code) and then asked members to not have funny characters in the thread ..

"maybe the text has unusual characters. try to copy it first to the Notepad, then to the forum."

Has this only been happening since your upgrade to 2.0.12?

Are your members trying to PM you with bbcode content?

I think so, yes.  The upgrade seems to work perfectly on my end, but users have been complaining about tiny bugs like their avatars not showing, although I can see their avatars just fine.

I did not ask them if they are using BBcode, I'll check.

woah. you kipped my answer .. thanks i guess.

Haha, no, I did not, don't worry.  I wanted to give it a try before I responded and verify it.

I feel bad now because your suggestion seems like one of the most likely ones.  The links you provided also align perfectly with what my users have been complaining about.
