Choose membergroup on registration?

Hey all!
I have SMF 2.0.17.

I'd like to be able for new members upon registration to choose between two "account types" which would be between "members" and "partners" which will be two separated membergroups with separate permissions.
Any suggestions how to handle this, for example in registration form to let members choose between two membergroups and automatically add them to that group when registration is completed?
