ssi in ssi_examples.shtml does not work

Tested ssi_examples.shtml and ssi_examples.php come with 2.0.17 package.
ssi_examples.php works, but ssi_examples.shtml does not. Tested it on different browers.
I got this:

check your server error logs....  On the other hand, why would anyone use the shtml these days anyway?

Why not? It's still as handy for basic things as it ever was.

I just tested & it works fine. 

Are you sure your environment is configured to run SSI?

If you're configured properly, like Kindred says, you need to check your logs...
