I've been running an SMF forum since 2009.  Until recently I've had no issues upgrading to later versions.  However, getting from 2.0.14 to 2.0.15 and beyond is giving me grief and I would appreciate some help.

My forum is called Radarspotting.  I'm not allowed to post a link so Google should help you find it.

There are a few Mods including Treasury which I've had to disable as it stopped showing historic donations.

When I try to install the 2.0.15 patch I get this error report

Error in Package Installation
At least one error was encountered during a test installation of this package. It is strongly recommended that you do not continue with installation unless you know what you are doing, and have made a backup very recently. This error may be caused by a conflict between the package you're trying to install and another package you have already installed, an error in the package, a package which requires another package that you don't have installed yet, or a package designed for another version of SMF.

Followed by a very long list of 22 attempted modifications.  Most show more than one attempt, either Test Failed followed by Test Successful or vice versa.  Some only report Test Failed.

In view of the error report I'm reluctant to choose Install Now but would like to upgrade to the latest release, which appears to be 2.0.17.

I back up the forum everyday as does my hosting service.  But I'd prefer a seamless(ish) upgrade rather than start afresh and progressively restore as much of the old as I can.

If anyone can provide some pointers to help me out of the current impasse, I would very much appreciate it.

You can either do the manual changes to the appropriate files, or you can overwrite your forum files with those from the large 2.0.17 package, minus the upgrade.php and .sql files. Running the upgrade is not necessary in this case.

The only thing is that all mods will be uninstalled, but you can install them again afterwards. Also, if you have done manual edits to the files, you should make a note of them and reapply them afterwards as well. Hope it helps.

Thank you.

I'll report back on how I get on.

Just an update to close this thread.

My hosting provider undertool a platfom migration two weeks ago which has caused havok for my forum and many of its other customers.  Now things have settled down I tried patching from 2.0.14 to 2.0.17, ignoring reported errors.  If this failed, a fresh install was planned.

The patching appears to have worked and I'm now on 2.0.17.  The patch from 2.0.16 to 2.0.17 showed no errors beforehand.

However, following the platform migration I can't register new members and I've posted that issue as a separate thread.

Thanks for the help.

if you ignored errors in the patched from 2.0.15 to 2.0.15 to 2.0.16, then you are going to have problems.

You **CAN NOT** ignore errors during a patch.
You **MUST** either set the code to match and thus allow automatic patching or manually apply the patched code to the sections which failed.
