Thanks Dave, I tested with the code you suggested and it works perfectly.
The only thing I don't like is the box that is created around the image because it is square, while I use a round image and it's not good.
I finally solved it with this code from Antechinus

This update fixes the smiley popup issue, but before we proceed, I have a question.
Since I initially modified the theme with fairly significant changes and now I don't remember them all, is it possible to overwrite just the new jquery.sceditor.default.css and jquery.sceditor.theme.css files over the old ones, since the problem seems to be only there?
This fixes the popup issue and saves me a lot of time.
Is this possible, or does it risk breaking something?

You can definitely do that without issue.
