Database Integration Mod?

Hello all,

Is there a mod, or perhaps a built-in feature I'm overlooking, that allows for database integration?  Something is similar to the Mods and Themes pages on this site, but without the need for downloads.  Just info, maybe links, would be stored with categories and searchable.

Tried searching for existing mods but found nothing, unless there's a term other than "database" I should be searching for.

Thanks!

Kindred

Not sure exactly what you mean, there is a links list mod, a staff page mod, A gallery mod, and a dozen other mods that could be described as a "database integration"

You'll need to be much more specific in the description of what you are trying to accomplish

I'm thinking something more custom, where fields could be defined as needed.

For example, recipes.  That would need a field for title/name, category, perhaps a subcategory, user ID of member posting the recipe, description, ingredients, and directions.  Users could search by category, username, or a general search where they'd enter a search term.

Another example might be collectibles.  Fields might include title/name, category, subcategory, description, year produced, original price, current value.  Then an option to include a photo.

So, as admin, I'd name the database and setup the fields.  Then be able to restrict entering data to specified members or member groups.

I used a paid mod, smfpacks dynamic directory to create a recipe directory (with help from live, paid him to recode it a bit so I could design the detail page the way that I wanted it)
there's also an issue with it using the each function which is depreciated (I'll probably have to pay someone to fix that as well)

so I mean, it needs work and unfortunately it doesn't seem that the folks over at smfpacks are willing/able to do it any time soon (if at all, can't say or not)
so keep that in mind

you can see a demo of it:
thehelpline.info/forum/index.php?action=recipes

I also then tweaked it to make a site/coupon directory
thehelpline.info/forum/index.php?action=sites

the other option would be to use the Custom Form Mod

That's a bummer because that mod would be about perfect for what I'm thinking.

Kindred

I actually started writing a recipe mod back in the 1.1.10 days....     I got it about 1/2 finished before the site I was writing it for died.

It actually would not be too difficult, for someone who knows what they are doing.

The articles or FAQ mods are a pretty basic design , or the SMFBay or Classifieds mods collect the same sort of categorized data.

I may get around to re-writing and modernizing the code and finishing the recipe mod...   but, if you're interested in something like that, you really need to specify the SPECIFIC use-cases you are looking for. Saying "a database mod" is not a great way to explain it, since (as you can see) it could have meant practically anything. :)

I created  some new tables in the SMF forum database using the cPanel database tools. Some of the tables are not integrated with the forum but one is a table that joins fields from the members table and the themes table. Maybe this would work for what you want to do.

I think this confirms your suspicion: https://www.smfpacks.com/b2/dynamic-directory-smf-2-1/5126/

yeah I kind of guessed that it wouldn't...as is i'm using php7.2 and getting the error of the each function is depreciated ... so it probably will not work on newer versions of php
so meh I've paid about $75 for a mod that was already more or less eol and will have to end up paying more to find someone who can bring it up to date and continue paying someone to keep it up to date...
(though as much as I paid for the old directory script that I was using, this is still cheaper and it's integrated into the forum)

the custom forms mod will probably be your best bet at the moment, at least we know live will keep it updated :D

or if we hassle, I mean ask Kindred nicely and maybe toss some money his way ;) he might finish his project

Those are possibilities.  :)  I'm also looking at some of the SMFHacks offerings and trying to figure out if I can make any of them work.

I need to read up more on the creating mods and coding information for SMF.  I can code what I want outside of SMF, using PHP and MySQL; it's getting it inside of SMF that's the main(?) problem.

In theory you can. I used the same base for SMF Gallery for my products such downloads, classifieds, store etc.

Just tweak and add features as needed.
