How to auto-fix Long URLs

Hello,

I would like to have my forum automatically change long links (i.e. 65 characters or more) to the form [*url=http://]Clicky[/*url] (without the *'s of course).

I found the section of code in Subs.php that finds the urls:

So, I tried putting something like:

But the problem is that $data contains the entire message, rather than just the url.  So, my if statement is checking the wrong variable.  The pre_replace() function puts the url into $1, but that's just a local variable used in that function call only.

Does anyone know how I can check the length of the url instead of the entire message?
