Flashchat & SMF - showing users in chat - PLEASE HELP!

Hello, I am using 1.1rc1 & Flashchat.
I have done some of the intergration listed here: http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=27137.0, however the code changes for adding "users in chat" (SUB-TUTORIAL #1 & #2 in link above) have mutated significantly since the instructions were written in 2004.
I have tried to make sense of all of the posts and changes in the .php files, but I cannot find the correct lines to make the changes, and when I think I did, I get parse errors.

Could someone please hold a noob's hands and show me what all to change in rc1 to complete the intergration? Or, I can send you copies of the revelant .php files (most of mine have some mods in them) for you to lash up the changes.

Have you figured this out yet?

If not, are you using a theme or just the default?

Most of it.
The only problem I have is that the Sub tutorial 2 - the part which adds a line near the home, login, etc. buttons - sort of works.
It displays at the very top of my forum, not by the buttons, and breaks my xhtml.

Everything else I managed to figure out.
