Hello guys, i have tried to import old theme to my forum but i have got this error, after awhile of navigating.
Unable to load the 'boardindex_outer_above' template.
anyone knows how to fix it?

Arantor

Old themes won't work without significant rework. You will generally need a new theme.

how do i know the version of theme that i have through scripts?

DeadMan...

Best would be to go to the theme's download page and see if they have an updated version for 2.1.x.
Sometimes, theme makers make versions for each SMF version.

If look in the folder for the theme, you'll find a file named: theme_info.xml
Inside that file you'll find:
<install for="2.1 - 2.1.99" />Or whatever version it's made for.

Actually since 2.1 it's quite straightforward.

If you didn't get it from somewhere after the upgrade: it won't work. Doesn't matter - if it's not already a 2.1 theme, guarantee it will not work, which is the situation you ran into here, trying to take your existing theme from before 2.1 and using it on 2.1 which cannot ever work without rewriting parts of it.

If you did download it from somewhere after the upgrade, attempting to install it will tell you whether it will work or not, since as of 2.1, themes explicitly indicate which versions they work on (and since themes made prior to 2.1 don't have the version information, they will all fail)

This is new, was introduced in 2.1.
So older themes won't have it which is still useful to identify if the theme is updated.

i didnt see any information about version on theme file

Arantor

Then your theme is from before 2.1 and so won't work. Of course, I already knew this from your error message without having to check.

Again, your choices: get a new theme, or get someone to fix your existing theme (hard work)
