Attachment settings causing failed uploads?

Is there anything in the attachment settings which might explain a very irregular failure to upload, where basically it just uploads forever without success? I can find no explanation. No errors in forum log or server. Host says no limits are being hit. Could "Adaptive thumbnail memory" being unchecked cause such an issue? It saus in red, "If disabled, memory is limited to 128M"

Php memory_limit is usually set to 128M on most hosts, that will cause large file uploads to fail.  You can increase it in control panel > Select PHP version > Options.
