Users can't see different topics

Previous topic - Next topic

Hey there,

i've recently build an api with SMF to add users from another software to the system.
Everything works great so far but the users can't see one of the topics. The user itself can see all other topics.

The used version is 2.1.4

Mesaures taken:
- i've checked the right management (the user is listed as a standard user and is able to access the topic)
- i've deactivated caching in the settings and cleared the software cace
- searched the forum for equivalent problems

Do you have an idea why my users can't see that specific board?

Thanks in advance

Do you get any errors in either you forum or server error logs?
Have you tried creating a test user for yourself to see what exactly happens when you try to access that topic?

Is the regular members group allowed access at the board level?
PM at your own risk, some I answer, if they are interesting, some I ignore.

Hi and thanks for the feedback,

Yes, regular users have access. I was able to log in as one of these users and can confirm that newly created users cannot see this particular topic.
The logs are completely clear; the only entries I had there were failed login attempts (self-induced) and a few warnings from my API.
Looks like I'll have to take a closer look at the code after all. ;D

So what happens if you try to access a topic like this directly? Do you get an error of some sort?
If it's SMF permissions, you should get a message saying it's either missing or you lack permissions - If it's something else, you should likely get an actual error message of some sort, either visibly or logged somewhere, if it's a cache like Varnish you'll actually get in and the issue is only that you can't see it while SMF is functioning correctly. Describing actual behaviour you do see is useful in diagnosing issues with not seeing what you are expecting to see.

Also, by default,  you can not limit access to individual TOPICS aka threads  by user or even by usergroup.

Smf permissions are only granular to the BOARD level

Can they see other topics on the same board?

Is the topic approved?

I checked the topic, activated "visible for all members", boom solved.
Thanks
