Hello, our forum has not been used in a while and it was put in maintenance mode. Trying to get it going again has been a problem. The website host recommended contacting the developer. I hope someone here can help.

I will paste what I copied from the tech's message to me FYI.

Thanks

On behalf of client: Hello,

I am having trouble with my website ourlocal353.ca [nofollow]. It is down right now and a 500 error is showing up when you try to load it.

It's been like that for a while now, since I lost my domain name and had to re-register it about a year ago and was able to connect it to the site shortly after, but ever since the site's content hasn't been loading.

It should be loading the content from public_html/forums folder

Can you check what might be causing the issue and assist in getting the site back online? Thanks!

If you check the app php_errorlog file you will see that the app throws an error:

[01-Apr-2025 18:03:49 UTC] PHP Fatal error:  Uncaught Error: Call to undefined function mysql_connect() in /home/customer/www/ourlocal353.ca/public_html/forums/Sources/Subs-Db-mysql.php:58
Stack trace:
#0 /home/customer/www/ourlocal353.ca/public_html/forums/Sources/Load.php(2555): smf_db_initiate('localhost', 'ourloca1_smf1', 'ourloca1_smf1', 'pass123', 'smf_', Array)
#1 /home/customer/www/ourlocal353.ca/public_html/forums/index.php(69): loadDatabase()
#2 {main}
  thrown in /home/customer/www/ourlocal353.ca/public_html/forums/Sources/Subs-Db-mysql.php on line 58

The error message indicates that the PHP script is trying to use the mysql_connect() function, which is undefined. This typically happens because the mysql extension was removed in PHP 7.0 and later versions. The mysql_connect() function is part of this deprecated extension.

I suggest that you reach the website developer so they can help further with this.

Your host may have upgraded php version beyond what your forum supports.  Which SMF version are you using.  Which php version?

When in Emor, do as the Snamors.

If you are using php 8.0, then you require smf 2.0.19 or 2.1.4

If you are using php 8.1 or higher,  the you require smf 2.1.4

The only options are to use a lower version of php or to upgrade your smf

Unfortunately, I do not have time.  You can post in the help wanted board -- please specify if this is a free or paid request when you do

Did some work on your forum some time ago.  My ftp access doesn't work, and no admin access as forum is crashed.  I've restored your board at https://thekrashsite.com, you can login there, will get to it tomorrow.  Am on my tab (reading), not much I can do from here.
