I have no idea what you've done or how you did it, but the script I posted does not add .dat extension to files that already have it.  If you have files with a .bat or .bat.dat extension you screwed with the script and made a mess.  I have another script that removes .dat extension, it can be modified to remove .bat or .bat.dat, but I hesitate to post it because you obviously don't know wtf you're doing.

I restored the files from the backup and renamed them using the script. but to expand the theme, you should post a script that renames files if you mess up.

If you modify the script pretty much anything can happen.  The 2.1.4 upgrade sometimes fails to add .dat extension to all attachment files.  The script adds the extension to any file (except index.php and .htaccess) that doesn't have it.  It does nothing else unless you mess with it.  I have a script that removes the .dat extension, iirc I wrote it to reverse a borked 2.1 upgrade early on.  If you've somehow added a .bat or .bat.dat extension to files, the script can be modified to remove those as well, but it's not something that should be attempted if you don't know what you're doing.  Afaik that script was only necessary once and don't think I've never posted it here.
