Is it possible to set 2.0.18 to allow visitors to see only thumbnails of images, while logged in users can access full size versions?

We recently changed the forum to restrict visitor permissions to see attachments, however this completely eliminates their ability to see thumbnails. In fact there is no indication there is an image attached to a post at all.

Is it possible to let them see thumbnails, but set so they would need to log in as users in order to see the expanded full size images? We'd like to encourage joining and logging in, but not completely strip the forum appearance of images -- particularly for new visitors.

Thanks for any help.

Not with the built in options. This will require custom coding.

@vtmachine I implemented this restriction on all my SMF 2.0 forums by using the Post and PM Inline Attachments mod - notes from change log:
Added 'Do NOT allow attachments displayed inline to be downloaded' and 'Do NOT allow attachments displayed below post to be downloaded' permissions to prevent attachments displayed inline and/or below the post from being downloaded (only thumbnails and/or attachment names will be shown).  Configured via Admin -> Permissions -> General Permissions.  Can be configured for membergroup and/or board permission profiles

You can see the restriction working here for a thumbnail displayed below a post and for an inline image: https://ulti-owners.info/forum/index.php?topic=73863.0

The restriction also works for non-image attachments - see https://ulti-owners.info/forum/index.php?topic=368.0

Thanks @Doug Heffernan and @GL700Wing. I'm going to check with the forum owner whether we already have this mod, and if not whether it can be added.
