Email Settings problem

I am having problems sendinng email from the froum email system.
After reading forum posts that you should use the SMTP Mail type I first used.

Mail type = SMTP
I then got from the Error log
"Ran into problems sending mail. Error: 530 Must issue a STARTTLS command first "

I then used SMTP - STARTTLS
I then got from the Error log
"Ran into problems sending mail. Error: 550 Sender address is not allowed."

I am using forum 2.1.4 and using SMTP settings from Ionis.

Please need some help in getting my emails working. I am not experienced in PHP coding so need it explained to me simply.

you don't need to code anything, you just need the correct configuration settings.  Those would probably best be gotten from your host

Having trawled through the forums here, the setting
"admin -> maintenance -> server settings -> general webmaster email address" set to our admin domain address and then setting email settings to PHP default I got a successful sent email address. So that was the fix for me.

Thanks for your post, I got my Ionos email working on my forum now too.
