Calendar + SSI

Hi, I have been playing around with SSI.php and found that you could pretty much build a simple portal using that. And the beautiful examples of others have proven that...

There is one thing that I would like to know, or if not possible yet, maybe add as a suggestion:

Can we have a Mini-Calendar for SSI?  In Tiny Portal and MKPortal, you can put a calendar block on the front page. Is it possible to achieve this using SSI or some enhancement/modification to it?

I am using Recent Event from the calendar function, but it would be cool to have the actual month calendar in a block, without needing to install a portal.
