I just loaded up SMF 1.0.5, with Bridge 3.19a on a Joomla install 1.0.3.  I had a few issues but was able to find answers to all but one:

I cannot log into my SMF forums using either my Joomla or SMF admin logins.  I read somwhere that there is a problem with existing users in SMF not creating in Joomla, so is this a case in reverse?
Does SMF not use the Joomla ACL?  I have publishers and authors that need certain main site news rights.  Also, do I have to delete all my users from the Joomla ACL and have them reregister with the site?
If all of the above is true, how is the Joomla Super User handled?  The site admin/super user can only be deleted or downgraded via hacking the code, but that leaves the site without a master admin...namely me on my site.
When I installed SMF via my host-provided Fantastico (and the bridge via the instructions), I thought that sharing the databases would clear up the issues with users in both areas.

Can anyone shed any light on this?

Note: this message has been edited a few times due to answer discovery...but I cannot seem to find a clear answer to this.

In 3.19a, users are migrated from SMF to Joomla when they login.  The functionality to migrate users from Joomla to SMF was added to 3.20.

QuoteDoes SMF not use the Joomla ACL?

No, and thank goodness.  That ACL mess is my biggest pet peeve with Joomla.

No, don't delete them.

There are no "shared" databases.....

I think you are very, very confused about what the bridge does and does not do.

Things that 3.19a does:

- wraps SMF in the Joomla template & URL system
- provides a shared registration system (not to be confused with sharing database tables)
- provides a shared login system (again, not to be confused with sharing database tables)
- migrates users from SMF to Joomla as they login for the first time

What 3.19a does not do:

- does not share database tables.  SMF and Joomla still use their own database tables.
- does not force the permissions system of one software onto the other.  A superadmin in Joomla is not necessarily an admin in SMF.  The permissions systems are completely independent.
- does not migrate users from Joomla to SMF

If you need to migrate users from Joomla to SMF, there is a script for the migration:
