i noticed that the news in this forum is in a plain black colour.
maybe you should use rich text like bold, colour, size, etc.

it catches a person's eye.

H

What do you mean the e-mail news?

not the email news.
the forum news on top

I think that that would just make it distracting but thats just IMHO

I agree, there's really no point.

Well isnt thats what news is for, to grab someones attention when theres an update to something..
like you use this statement in the news "If you're not yet using the latest version, SMF 1.0.7, please upgrade as soon as possible."
would ppl really notice the change from 6 to 7 ?

H

Most SMF users are not active on these forums so they know about 1.0.7 either because they are mailed about it or because they are told when they open the admin area.

Having bright news announcements is just annoying

But atleast there should be variety in the news.
Not just like replacing 6 with 7.
Instead you should change the sentence completely.

Secondly, you should consider emailing all members about the update.

Secondly, you should consider emailing all members about the update.

Members are e-mailed if they have registered and have requested announcements by e-mail in their profile.

If SMF sent e-mails without the users consent we would get blacklisted.

Remember that users still get information about the update in the admin area
