Help with themes please

Ok, so now I think I understand, if I want to change the colors of the forum, I need to download a new theme.  I was scanning the themes that are available and it is a little overwhelming.  It looks like all the themes that are available were done by people other than the SMF people?  Are these all safe to download?  Do they all have the same features as the regular version?  I also noticed that some say you have to have a certain version for it to be compatible, how do I know?

There are many themes that have been done by the team. Look for blocs, A.M.As.. I can't remember the rest of the team.
They're safe, just make sure you only install theme for your version of SMF. The version the theme is for will be told in the theme's topic.

I also noticed that there are different types, as far as one column, two and three.  What is the original considered?

If all you want to do is change the colors of the theme you're using, you don't need to install a new theme. All you have to do is change the colors in the 'style.css' file.

I tweaked mine a bit. Take a peek at it here [nofollow].

I changed the background image, the main body background color and the various info bar colors.  I was able to achieve a different look rather easily.

If you've never messed with html or a ccs style page i would ask for help other wise you could mess your site up. The ccs page he is talking about is in your /public_html/your_ forum_name/Themes/default/style.ccs folder. All it will do is change the color of your site but you still have the same button styles unless you install a new theme. Maybe post a link to your site and somebody can help you with your ccs page after they know what colors your looking for.
