Can't install SMF 1.1RC2

sorry guys but i new in this. i have currently a wamp, running with:
Apache version :
Apache/2.0.55 (Win32)

PHP version :
5.1.2

MySQL version :
5.0.18-nt

joomla 1.08. i recently downloaded smf 1.1 RC2 but i have no clew how  to install this. i allready tried to install as a component but didn't maked...
Can anyone tell what i'm doing wrong

SMF is not a Joomla component.

make a forum directory on your server.
extract the smf installation archive to your local drive.
ftp the entire extracted set to the forum directory on your server.
run install.php

after smf is installed, install the bridge component (com_smf) as a component in joomla
