SMF Version: SMF 1.1 RC2
Hi all,

I'm experiencing a very weird bug on my French Forum.
In a few words : on most pages, there is no problem, but on some pages, special characters like "é" (common in French) are replaced by other characters...

Here are some example :
- Forum home page is OK.
- Subscription page isn't ok : IE users see asian characters next to the form, Firefox users see a curious "" on the top of the page, and more disturbing, logins typed with special characters (like "é") are replaced ("é" replaces "é")...

I cannot understand... When I request the xhtml validation of my subscription page, an error is detected at the very begining of the code. The home page of the forum (like many others) doesn't have this error. What is strange is that, according to what I understand, the <head> code is shared across the whole forum : indexTemplate.php.
How can it create an error on somes pages but not on others ???

I'm looking for the hero that could help me :)

Thank you a lot

1.1RC2-1 is the same thing as rc2 except with the patch installed. you should install it asap.

In fact, I tried to install it via package manager... but the installation may have failed ?
During first step a warning told me there was a syntaxe error.
Despite this warning, I launched the installation and the final message told the installation was successful...

Do you think it's not the case ?

are you using the correct French language pack?
Eventualy, you were right ! The problem used to come from the French language package.
For people who face this problem, here is how to fix it :

You have to change /Themes/YOUR_THEME/languages/Login.french.php
Just remove first characters (before "<?php") :)
I remember now the French package I use isn't the one we can download from http://www.simplemachines.org/download/?languages (an error occurs each time I try to unzip this file on my laptop).

I found the package somewhere accross the French support website I think (or somewhere else, I don't remember).

Thank you all for your help.

See you
