Joomla 1.0.8 + SMF 1.0.7 + VirtueMart 1.0.4 or 1.0.5

Hello all,

I think SMF is the best forum software and VirtueMart the best shopping application currently available for Joomla.

But I have learned that it is not easy to run SMF and VirtueMart ( former mambo-phpShop ) together. It was a lot of hard work to get my old environment running ( mambo & SMF & mambo-phpShop ) which is live for more than one year now. Most of the problems were related to the login / register process. I especially have had problems when users tried to buy without having registered first.


Now it's time to upgrade!

But once you try to upgrade only one component, you will run into problems.

That's the reason why I am looking for some people who are having at least these two components running successfully together on Joomla, or plan to run them together to share experiences.

I am not sure if both developer teams ( SMF Bridge & VirtueMart ) are (somtimes) working together but maybe they will be able to suppport us a little bit to get the best combination ever running? 

Or am I looking for something that is still running without problems?

upgrade to SMF 1.1RC2 and bridge v1.1.4

I believe there is some integration for VirtueMart in bridge v1.1.4 (which ONLY runs on SMF 1.1 RC2)

thank's for your fast reply. I don't like to run release candidates in a productive environment. Do you know when a final version of 1.1RC2 will be available?

from what I hear, there is an RC3 release due out soon...   not sure when 1.1 final is coming out.

However, I have been runing RC2 for over 6 months with no errors on 3 live sites... including one with over a thousand users/posts per day

do you think upgrading from the RC-whatever version to the final version will be easy?

upgrading from RC2 to 1.1 final will definitely be easier than upgrading from 1.0.7 to 1.1 final...

The upgrade to RC2 is rather involved because a number of the database tables changes rather significantly...

I tried to upgrade to SMF 1.1RC2 the day before yesterday. But I ran into problems, because I could not use my board any longer, it said something about "Sorry, the copyright must be in the template"....

yes...   when you upgrade your board, you must also be certain to upgrade the language files and the SMF theme.

using ftp, upload the 11rc2upgrade package. run upgrade.php (if it's a large board, this may take some time)
