what in the world does $output_method do?...

I'm merging the forum with my site using the SSI guide.  They all use if $output_method==echo stuff, but that screws up my php (don't know why).

is this if statement important?... what's $output_method do??

If you change it to array, the functions will return an array of data instead of outputting anything.
