removing the info center and stuff at the top?

hi im new to smf, i tried editting some php files but had no idea what i was doing and didnt get teh result i wanted    id basically like to remove everything outside of the red box in this picture - http://kanyetalk.com/forums/kt.jpg
i know it must be possible somehow but id ont even know where to start. any help would be really appreciated.

also I know I cant remove the copyright stuff, i know i have to keep that

ok ive tried everything, i found another thread in a search and followed the instructions but it only removed the news and stuff from the top. thats a start but i want to remove the info center too

You should remove this in BoardIndex.template.php
