Captcha Questions

I too, have been having a rash of Spammers trying to register lately. I've set my Board for me to have to activate all registrations. But I'm going to be gone for ten days!

I'd much rather be using a "captcha", but from what I'm seeing here there seems to be a lot of questions about it.

#1 - I'm running SMF 1.0.7 - are the bugs getting worked out?

#2 - Not being super savvy on downloading stuff, if I try to install the "captcha" from SMF what is the procedure to get the "captcha" installed on my forum? Do I need to move the file through my computer to my FTP to my host? Or is there an easier way. I'm with Axishost servers.
