IPB to SMF a Success - Additonal Issues

Thanks too Oldiesmann I have successfully converted IPB to SMF.

Now.. tweaking time... Firstly SMF does Not recognise the passwords used from IPB.
What can be done about this ?

I went to retrieve password and created a new one, that works.. but I think it doesnt keep the password.

Member Groups.. I had alot in IPB and when I go to Admin Panel and view the permissions alot are showing 0 users. Why is that ? What do I need to do about this ?

Sigs/Avatars where id they go to ? Only a few display rest are just links.. and no images.

Can I begin the attempt now to bridge Joomla to SMF ?

Any IPB user that uses SMF converted with IPB DBs cannot login using their normal IPB password.
Everyone has to go to retirve password and remake a password.

Also as I said user permissions are all wrong.. Members who should have access to certain forums don;t
and they can lock and moderate topics when they dont have access too..
whats going on ?

I need to make this site like in 2 weeks and there is so many things wrong

Im using 2.1.7

and there is too many replies and causes confusion so I dont know exactly what it is I am suppose to do

Hi yes I have seen your thread, but there is no solution that I can see, thats why I have this topic and still waiting for a reply as I dont know what to do with the way my board is now..

There is no complete solution for ALL the open issues! Some of my converter-problems are solved, but unfortunately not the ones we have both...

I'll take a closer look at the converter to see if I can figure out why some things aren't getting converted properly.

I think the password issue is caused by SMF not converting the password salt - what column in the members table does IPB store this info in?

I'm not sure about the password salt..

Yes I don't have any PM's transfered over.. says my inbox has 46 messages but there are 0 in it.
I have a user who can lock topics when he shouldnt be able too...
Seems all the user groups and permissions didnt convert as they should as it shows most of them used by 0 members and they arent seeing forums they should and probably can see forums they shouldnt.

My board isnt live but I have some members who I have allowed to view it.

Mines been bridged now with Joomla that so far seems to be alright but it hasnt been fully tested, due to needing smf issues sorted out.

Somehow I doubt the converter can work to the way we want/require it as SMF and IPB are not the same and do things differently.

I'm not sure, but there is a table 'ibf_members_converge' with the following fields:

But there is also a table 'ibf_members' with the password-related fields:

`member_login_key`Again: I have not the necessary know-how to tell you for sure which one are really needed to convert IBP to SMF.

Yer I dont know either but I thought there was converters that worked ?
Not that just pulled some of the forum posts/categories from IPB to SMF ?

I will really miss IPB if I ever can get onto SMF where it works how I need it too with these conversions... as IPB has just soo much more then SMF, and with themes/skins as well where SMF totally lacks.

Forum itself is alright for basic use and has what you need and mods for SMF are similar or a rip from IPB which is good for me since I need some of those mods.

Just frustrating to put it mildly to have SMF working whie waiting for solutions everyday.

If you like IBP that much, you should pay them and support their thundering lie "ipb for free"...

I'm still patient and believe that 'Oldiesman' and all the others do their best to make a almost perfect converter!

I did and do like IPB you bet I do.

And i did pay for their license.  1 yrs worth 

I have used IPB for hmmm.. 4-5 yrs or there abouts.

and support their thundering lie "ipb for free"...

I dont care about that never ending useless arguement of always free then it's not.
Far as Im concerned things change, big deal.. it's life.

But I do see peoples point of views as I am an opened minded person and like to look at things from all perspects and even if I dont agree with someones view I still accept their opinion/idea.

things change, forums are in huge demand as in the internet, software, applications and everything online.. eventually money comes into it.. its how it is.

Look at the themes... skins for IPB compared to SMF.. the quantity and quality is far greater then SMF's.
It's a sad fact but true.
However I have browsed the few skins there are for SMF and there is some really nice skins and talented creators like Broc who will definitely change skins for SMF and that can only get better and inspire others too do it too.

IPB might not be free... but that can be argued all day as can Joomla being free open source but then people see a market and take oppurtunity when it strike and make money from it... its how world is and works...
Like Joomla templates there are places who charge a subscription, so they arent free... some others are.
No doubnt eventually someone will do the same for SMF forum skins which Im surprised someone hasnt tapped into yet but Im sure they will.

Even thoug today SMF says it will always be free they now charge for beta's that "changed" so who knows if SMF kicks off.. especially with Joomla or other cms's and so does the skins/themes it could become paid forums too who knows.. its fine to say now its alway sfree, but time changes and peopel and ideas change with it.

I hope it stays free for most of us who cannot afford to pay for forums. I bought my license for IPB through donations so we could move off ipb hosting, cause my hosting was with IPb and condition was free forums and upgrades etc etc for as long as you remain with IPB as the host.
That was fine and suited our needs till we began to grow and used more bandwith and couldnt afford extra bandwith charges, so we got donation, bought the license and moved to another host.. infact another host after that.. if we didnt have donations noway could have we or myself afforded IPB.

I understand the anger behind ipb not being free but I also see other side of it as well, and overall I dont care one way or the other as long as it works and does what it should.

SMF has great potential.. as I said alot of the mods are rips from IPB by the looks of them and for me and the SMF community thats great cause they are great mods and I use them so Im pleased even more.

At this point in time all I care about is getting off IPB so i can use Joomla the template I have for it, smf bridged like it is now and fix SMF issues of converted fromIPB to SMF and then find a skin that suits my site and fits in teh wrapper so I can then mod it and make the site go live and be done with it and enjoy!

So dont misunderstand, as I said I have used IPB for many yrs and I have nothing against them nor do I care about the politics.

I care about what my current goal and project is here and am here to stay.. so move over and enjoy the ride as well and help me along the way

Im patient too, to some extent and I agree with you as I have seen him help me and gave me a few updates within a few hours to try for the conversion and that was impressive.

Just want the site sorted and other issues like anyone else so it can go live.

We are still working on these issues and hopefully will have some things fixed soon, but with the enormous amount of support requests we get here, I don't know how soon we'll be able to look at this more. Thanks for your patience

Yeah thats a huge problem as some of us are stuck in th emidle of nowhere due to these issues... and cannot stay that way indefinitely.

And I really don't think you will be able to do much more as IPB and SMF might be similar but are very different as you know...

Ive put things on hold while waiting for a fix to this and SMF skins...

I'll wait a while still as that's all I can do at this stage.
