Modify Header/Footer

I have installed SMF and would like to put some custom HTML links in the header/footer.  I have read some of the docs and it talks about sub templates.  Isn't there someplace that I can just enter the HTML code directly?

index.template.php has the header and footer that goes on all pages. You will want to look through and edit that file.
