Google loves my board, Google hates my board

Hey guys,

I wanted to run this by you to see what you guys think is going on here. I have a board, which I know for a fact is the second largest board catering to what my site is intended for - A message board for a very very large band. Having said this, the strangest thing keeps happening. I have tried my absolute hardest using every technique I could think of to be ranked on page 1 on Google's search engine. However, no matter what I do, my site is not even in the top 50 when using the same keywords that my competitors use.

However, every single day, links from my board come up in Googles email alerts, while not a single one show up from my competitors site. So i can't understand why my site is obviously being crawled by Google daily, yet they refuse to rank my site anywhere in the top 50. It's almost ludicrous at this point. My site is the second (sometimes first) largest frequented site for this band in the world. I feel without being ranked in the top 10 on Google Search is seriously hurting the potential growth of my board.

So, my question is, does anyone have any idea why this might be happening?  Or any tips as to become ranked in the top 10?

Thanks

I have often read about people claiming issues with SMF boards and there rankings. Take a look under this search word for example: "liverpool fc forum"

Third result will give you one of the biggest SMF forums out there. I think the biggest? Anyway.

SEO is a subject all of its own and I have done very well in getting sites within the top 3 for competitive search terms within Google, MSN etc. To keep it brief you need good inbound links that are relative to your keyword.

Which keywords are you targetting for example? How long has your site been around? What kind of Google PR do you currently enjoy?

In brief you need good keyword relative content together with excellent keyword related links.

Look for advice here also, Seochat

You need lots of incoming links from other sites. That's how Google calculates your PageRank and gives more value to your site.
