I am plan to move to smf from phpBB.  I am thinking to give up all the current data inside the forum since there r too much spam post and spam user; however, I would like to prevent those thing happened again.

I tried to search around but didn't see any post contains all kind of anti-spam method.
I thought couple of visual protection, and I am just wondering what else I can do before I put my new forum on public.

Best,

CAPTCHA (visual verification) is a good idea. There are a few things to know about SMF before jumping in. The first is that the community is better in my opinion. The second is that the code is easier for you to work with. The third is that the modification system that is in place will make it MUCH easier for you to do what you are asking.

For instance there are countless modifications available that are easily added using a package manager. Using that you can just upload them (and this is all done with the default installation - no buggy tweaking just to install a mod) and away you go.

In your case there is an Akismet mod, an advanced visual verification mod, and there will likely be even more things released soon to help should someone still get around all of the above protections.
