"Announce Topic" Not Working?...

Hi everyone

I run a non-profit forum and about a year ago, I went on a donation drive. I wrote a post in the "Announcements" section requesting donations and then clicked on "Additional Options" and finally "Announce Topic". A "Send an announcement" page then appeared containing a list of all member groups (all boxes were checked) and I clicked on the "post" button and within seconds, I could see the progress page and I could see that it was sending out my announcement. I used PHP (default) - rather than SMTP to send out this announcement at the time.

After I completed this step, I then returned to the main page of the forum and I could see that the "Users Online" list was beginning to rapidly fill up. When I clicked on the "xxx Guests, xxx Users" link below it, I could see that LOTS of both members and guests were viewing my announcement and that many members were logging in. I went back to the announcement itself and I could see that the "page views" were increasing rapidly and when I went to my PayPal account, I could see that several people had donated. When it was all over and done with, I got about 1,500 page views on the announcement I had sent out, several donations and a huge number of visitors (some who had not been to the forum in months). I also got a lot of replies to the announcement.

The really strange thing is that I've repeated this EXACT same process in two subsequent donation drives and have gotten maybe 20-30 page views on my donation announcement, minimal activity on the forum and few donations. It's as if my members are no longer able to receive announcements. I've tried using both PHP and SMTP to send these announcements out and I have the "Allow users to disable announcements" option unchecked so I'm not quite sure what is going on.

Well, I guess that about sums it up. Can anyone please tell me what the problem might be?. Is there some way of checking to see if my announcement from yesterday ever went out?. Is it better to use PHP (default) or SMTP to send out these announcements?. Is there something I'm doing wrong here?.

Thanks for any input or advice on this.

Hello,

What version of SMF are you running?

I believe that if you sent out an "announcement" that it should have sent you a copy also.

Have you looked into the newsletter option?

I am having the same problem with the announce topic feature. I am running 1.1.1.  I can send things out using the Newsletter feature, but no luck with the announce topic. Is it maybe only trying to send using php? I have custom mods on, but none of them affect the announce topic. When I updated it said everything went fine, but could it be wrong? I am not showing any messages in my error log. This is very odd. Thanks for your help. Could this be an array problem??? I know when I send out the newsletter it shows the e-mail addresses after selecting the groups. This doesn't happen in the announce topic function. It's the only thing I can think of. I am not too savvy on php yet, but I am working on it. I will try to look and see if I can figure it out.

Hello,

I am cleaning up old support topics.

Did the announce topic feature ever work?  Are your server settings correct?
