many times on my forum, people like to use images in their avatars and/or signatures that are not exactly safe for viewing at your office/work.  the "Don't show users' avatars." and "Don't show users' signatures" features under Profile | Look and Layout Preferences address this and work just great.

However, this happens more often within members' posts.  they will post images that are not safe for work and i don't know about it until it's too late.  i encourage my members to label their threads properly, but that does not always happen.  usually i get a red x when a non-work safe image has been posted, which obviously means my employer's firewall has blocked that image because it comes from a restricted site.

so, i was wondering if it would be possible to have a checkbox similar to the "Don't show users' avatars." and "Don't show users' signatures" features that said..."Show images in posts as links".  When checked all images (or i guess anything surrounded by tags) would be converted to a link to the image instead of displaying the image itself.  thus, eliminating unwanted images from being shown on your screen or even your computer from trying to access the image.

is this feasible?

TIA

the inline attachments mod does this  ;) but your members would have to use it.. its not something you can switch on  ::)

not sure what you mean by this.  it's not a box checking type thing in your profile?  the member would have to use certain tags in his/her post?  is that how it works?

It adds a drop down box in your post.template.php file.. so when posting your members can select different kinds of ways to show their attached images inside a post instead of below the post. One of the options is to show the image as a link. To see it in action i can PM my forums url to you but please be warned that my site contains XXX hardcore adult content.  ;)

wow...you weren't kidding.  haha.  thanks.

i see how it works now.  i would still like to see this become a feature if possible.  many of my members, including me, visit my forum from work, and for the feature to work as i described in my first post would be very beneficial.
