how to show upcoming birthdays?

how do i show upcoming birthdays on the main page (like on this forum)?

Admin > Calendar > Show birthdays: (choose from 'On board index only' or 'Show on board index and calendar).

But note that only members who've specified their birthdates in their profiles will be included.
