Would it be possible to implement some "style" to the AJAX? When doing ajax, and making it as "effecient" as possible, its always best to make the "skipping" that is caused from an ajax quick edit (making the page slide down etc..) disapear by using DHTML effects, like "fading" the quick edit box in.

Examples of this can be seen at digg or even on facebook. When you do something, it nice and cleanly comes into the picture. This gives the user a very "good" feeling if you dare say.

This is something that would be very attractive to users of vBulletin. vBulletin being very pretty, and very ajaxy is one thing i've always loved about it and one reason i've always used it. However; im tired of vbulletins cost... its out of this world how expensive that software is; and its not worth it!

I'd love to make a move over to SMF as it very attractive and it has a very good following of developers and users. I would however like to see more fluid-design of things that involve AJAX. I am fairly sure this would bring it more attention, and possibly even convert some people using vBulletin.

Have you looked into the theme system here with SMF? A theme doing the things you want could be developed and, if you browse through the existing ones, might actually already exist.

SMF vs. Godzilla? Who do you think will win?

And end up with multiple redraws rather than just one? No thanks. It is possible though, you can do anything you like with the themes system.
