I don't know if you guys have ever used invision board, but its very nifty when you get a new message, if you refresh the page, a preview of the message pops up.

i'll get a screen shot asap.

if someone could put this together, that would be awesome.

Kindred

you mean a pop-up indicating that you have a new personal message?

SMF already has this built in as standard.

Please do not PM, IM or Email me with support questions.  You will get better and faster responses in the support boards.  Thank you.

I know there is a pop up that lets you know you have a new pm, but there is a mod for invision to let you know the subject and who it is from.  is that possible here?

Also be aware of popup blockers.

pop up blockers mainly have a button to allow pop ups on the site.

is it possible to do a mod that gives you more information?

VBulletin has something wonderfull..., 2 msgbox, the first one ask you if you want to see the new PM, if you click OK the second one shows and ask you if you want to open on that window or on another window.

Usually I open on that window, I don't link popups..., why not do this in SMF too?

SMF 7 is where it gets good. That has time travel. You can go back and post before the guy who flamed you. :P

And not every one likes message boxes

Goodies

So.. switch em 'off.. or on.. good idea

Other useful applications I can think of:

- when you just log in and it's one of your pals' birthdays
- when one of your pals logs in or out
- when one of your pals has sent you a PM
- when one of your topics is updated
- when a poll is about to expire
- when a poll has just opened
- when maintenance is planned (countdown)

- for moderators: alarm when a specific user is entering the forum
- for moderators: popup when spam seems to occur somewhere
- for board moderators: message when (another) BM makes changes

- for admin: popup when spam seems to occur in (multiple) PM boxes
- for admin: when the attachments run out of diskspace
- for admin: message if someone has just changed the ban list
- for admin: forum backup has finished

Everything optional of course..  :P

Now instead of a popup, the message could occupy the rectangle of the "News" box, or displayed in big font, that will get your attention on the next refresh.. some kind of "personal newsbox"

:D

I think this is a better idea... intergrate directly into the forum's main page rather then a popup.
