I am currently setting up a message board to be used for technical writing. I was thinking it would be very helpful if someone were able to download the topic and all replies, perhaps in pdf or a plain text file.

Great community btw.

why don't you use the "Save as" option in the browser, after you have press the "Print" button on the page?

I can't argue with your solution. My only complaint with this solution is this :

PDF, Adobe Acrobat's Portable Document Format, retains the exact appearance of a document, no matter what platform (PC, Mac, Unix) is used to view or print it.

HTML is the language of the Web. HTML documents are thus designed for on-screen viewing and interactivity. They are intended to be accessed via computer whenever needed rather than to be printed to simulate a traditional reprint. Making HTML versions of traditionally printed articles is more expensive than making PDF versions and managing the files that are involved is more complex.

My only other issue with HTML is that attached pictures have to be included as a seperate file where this is seamlessly integrated into pdf.

then just install a free pdf-printer to your PC. then you can print the page as PDF document.

Since it doesn't look like this is going to happen :(
Is there anywhere I can read up on the new file structure?
I realize it isn't released yet, but that aspect is probably already done.

dont think you can be helped there unless you buy a Charter Membership (I might be wrong but I -think- Charter members have limited access to the completed code... but not us regulars *wishes he could afford a charter membership*)

[Unknown]

It's stored in the database; strictly speaking there is no new file structure.

Only charter members get this information as current.

Being poor, I would like to propose that you do a recurring bill as a substitute for charter members 1 year program. I understand 50 dollars isn't a whole lot of money, but I would be able to become a charter member if you charged maybe 5 dollars a month. You would make a little more money (5 * 12 = 60). Just an idea.
