Anyone tried any auto posting software to help get the momentum going?

I'm NOT talking about auto-posting or spamming other sites. I'm talking about seeding my forum with good content until I can get enough real people posting.

I saw this software that used yahoo's API to get posts from yahoo answers and then posted the whole thread to your forum. That was pretty cool. It was only $97 but the bottom of every post said "content from yahoo answers."

Anyone seen/used any software of this type?

(BTW, I hope this doesn't turn into a moral discussion about posting/building a forum. That's not what I'm interested in)  ;D

Those things are good if you want content, not if you want unique content or a "community".
I would never use them.
They just create a bunch of topics that nobody will read.
And personally I find it very annoying if I see a bunch of new "news" threads everyday and skip them as fast as I can.
Also noticed that I hardly go back to forums that have such automatic posters.

The software I was talking about only selects topics/threads about your forum subject (you can set the kw's it looks for) so it does enter threads that people are already talking about and reading. That's the point, they're current threads from yahoo answers.

I agree that RSS news feeds are annoying.

The idea at the beginning is not necessarily unique content for the search engine's sake, it's about making the community appear more active so real people are more likely to join in. It's just a temporary solution until the forum gets rolling and then you turn the auto-posting off.

I agree though that most of the bots I've seen are pretty horrible and would turn people off. The software I'm talking about is quite different though so that's why I was asking if anyone had used it.

I have been making the posts myself.  it gives visitors ALOT to read.

what helped me, was that I had been posting on a huge public forum for 8 months, so I have been cross-posting alot of what I said last year to my own forum.

I'm used to it too, because I used to run multiple BBS' in the 1980's

If you don't mind, could you post a link to that software that you have? I would like to try it out.
