Hi Everyone,
I've been using the smf forum for a while now and have made some quite a few changes and
learning a great deal as i go along.  Currently, I'm trying to alter the registration form and have successfully added a new field, and a table within the mysql database.

THE NEW FIELD IN THE FORM IS A TELEPHONE NUMBER:
how would be able to configure this so that the telephone number is recorded in the
database?

Also, right now, smf requires users who are registering to enter a valid email address, i would
like to configure the form so that users who are registering can enter either an email or a telephone number and make it not mandatory to enter the email address.

Any help on this would be appreciated.
thanks in advance.

Two things...

Custom Profile Field (in the mods section).
If they don't use an email how will they get notifications or recover passwords?

SMF vs. Godzilla? Who do you think will win?

I will take a look at the custom mods section and try to figure that out.
I read somewhere about the Custom Profile Field, if one uses a theme which has register.tmpl and some others, you will have to modifiy those.
If there is a simple answer for this please let me know, if not then i'll return in a few days with any problems i run into.

This is true, however, the forum is part of a larger framework. If users run into any problems they will have to contact us directly.  I'm using the forum for a very restricted discussion.  Hopefully, not too many individuals will forget their username and password. But then again you never know, we will see.

Thanks again for your help.

I've done a wee bit of looking and I am not entirely positive but I am pretty sure that they will at least need an email address though you can opt to keep it hidden if need be.
