after you stop chuckling, could you tell me how i can un-ban myself? i am the admin and i was testing out the ban feature so i could make some instructions for some other folks who will be setup as admin. i mistakenly hit ban by ip address (i meant to use by username because i had setup a dummy account that i was going to ban). now, every time i attempt to login, of course it says i'm banned. i've tried logging out and back in to try to get a different ip, but still the same. help!

Edit the banned table with phpMyAdmin.

hi and thanks for the reply. i'm a novice with phpadmin, but i did look at it when i encountered the problem. i could use some help doing that. i do see a table labeled smf_banned but i'm not sure what to do from there. can you help?

deepwaters

i'm okay. maybe what i tried to do last night worked because there are 0 records in the smf_banned table. either that or i got a new ip after i rebooted today.

is there a way to prevent admin from being banned?

Only admins can BANN an account. So dont bann test user by ip cause ur test user uses the same IP like u as the admin :P

deepwaters

thanks i realize that. ip is selected by default and i forgot to change it. is there any way to prevent admin from being banned (ip)?

roboter88

Well just keep it at 1 admin and dont bann urself :P

Use moderators (which could delete (group permissions) - not on default!) for managing baords posts and such ...

Banning admin is no problem cause why u would bann urself? Ok for testing and it worked as ur test success shows....

cheers

I think it should check to make sure your IP address isn't the same as the one you're trying to ban, and then scream at you if it is...

I sorta agree with Oldiesmann... but I think it would be a better idea to just make it impossible to ban an admin.  Have an error message that states, "You can not ban someone that is part of the administrator member group." That way you would have to think about it long enough to change their member group before being able to ban.
