PHP HTTP Authentication - Secure JPG files

How can I protect entire folders of contents using PHP? In the past I had to use NT Authentication to protect folders. I know how to do a php file and all that jazz, but I also want to protect a JPG. I'm running on IIS with php5 in ISAPI mode (and using the ISAPI filter for http authentication). Any help is appreciated.
