First post,  ;D, hopefully it is in the correct place.
I am trying to move the login/search bar to just above the main buttons and remove the "Login with username, password and session length". I couldn't find a mod for it. Any help?

Are you saying you need help or something? I don't see any form of question in your post...

If you are wondering where to put the code to move the user login right below the menu, put the code right after the template_menu() code.

Removing the login/regeister/logout links from the menu bar is relatively simple.

Just go to Subs.php in Sources and find:

'login' => array(
'title' => $txt['login'],
'href' => $scripturl . '?action=login',
'show' => $user_info['is_guest'],
'sub_buttons' => array(
),
),
'register' => array(
'title' => $txt['register'],
'href' => $scripturl . '?action=register',
'show' => $user_info['is_guest'],
'sub_buttons' => array(
),
'is_last' => !$context['right_to_left'],
),
'logout' => array(
'title' => $txt['logout'],
'href' => $scripturl . '?action=logout;%1$s=%2$s',
'show' => !$user_info['is_guest'],
'sub_buttons' => array(
),
'is_last' => !$context['right_to_left'],
                         ),

And remove it -- but be careful in doing so to make sure you get the full block and to make sure that there isn't a bit of it that needs to be moved to the button that will be last (that "is_last" section there at the end, I think..)

As for moving the login and search bar to just above the menu bar,

This is the code that shows the menu in the index.template.php file in the theme's folder:

// Show the menu here, according to the menu sub template.
template_menu();

The code you are wanting to move is NOT as compact as that, it is, in fact, made up of a large if/else block just for the login stuff, and another block for the search bar.

And it looks like this....

// If the user is logged in, display stuff like their name, new messages, etc.
if ($context['user']['is_logged'])
{
if (!empty($context['user']['avatar']))
echo '
<p class="avatar">', $context['user']['avatar']['image'], '</p>';
echo '
<ul class="reset">
<li class="greeting">', $txt['hello_member_ndt'], ' <span>', $context['user']['name'], '</span></li>
<li><a href="', $scripturl, '?action=unread">', $txt['unread_since_visit'], '</a></li>
<li><a href="', $scripturl, '?action=unreadreplies">', $txt['show_unread_replies'], '</a></li>';

// Is the forum in maintenance mode?
if ($context['in_maintenance'] && $context['user']['is_admin'])
echo '
<li class="notice">', $txt['maintain_mode_on'], '</li>';

// Are there any members waiting for approval?
if (!empty($context['unapproved_members']))
echo '
<li>', $context['unapproved_members'] == 1 ? $txt['approve_thereis'] : $txt['approve_thereare'], ' <a href="', $scripturl, '?action=admin;area=viewmembers;sa=browse;type=approve">', $context['unapproved_members'] == 1 ? $txt['approve_member'] : $context['unapproved_members'] . ' ' . $txt['approve_members'], '</a> ', $txt['approve_members_waiting'], '</li>';

if (!empty($context['open_mod_reports']) && $context['show_open_reports'])
echo '
<li><a href="', $scripturl, '?action=moderate;area=reports">', sprintf($txt['mod_reports_waiting'], $context['open_mod_reports']), '</a></li>';

echo '
<li>', $context['current_time'], '</li>
</ul>';
}
// Otherwise they're a guest - this time ask them to either register or login - lazy bums...
elseif (!empty($context['show_login_bar']))
{
echo '

<form id="guest_form" action="', $scripturl, '?action=login2" method="post" accept-charset="', $context['character_set'], '" ', empty($context['disable_login_hashing']) ? ' onsubmit="hashLoginPassword(this, \'' . $context['session_id'] . '\');"' : '', '>

</select>
<input type="submit" value="', $txt['login'], '" class="button_submit" /><br />

if (!empty($modSettings['enableOpenID']))
echo '
<br /><input type="text" name="openid_identifier" id="openid_url" size="25" class="input_text openid_login" />';

echo '
<input type="hidden" name="hash_passwrd" value="" />
</form>';
}

echo '
</div>
<div class="news normaltext">
<form id="search_form" action="', $scripturl, '?action=search2" method="post" accept-charset="', $context['character_set'], '">
<input type="text" name="search" value="" class="input_text" />&nbsp;
<input type="submit" name="submit" value="', $txt['search'], '" class="button_submit" />

// Search within current topic?
if (!empty($context['current_topic']))
echo '
<input type="hidden" name="topic" value="', $context['current_topic'], '" />';
// If we're on a certain board, limit it to this board ;).
elseif (!empty($context['current_board']))
echo '
<input type="hidden" name="brd[', $context['current_board'], ']" value="', $context['current_board'], '" />';

echo '</form>';

There is other code around it, and you would have to decide what to do with that code....
