Hey guys,

I am having problems installing SMF (new install).  After I copy the files over to my website/forum and I go to it, it ask me for all my db info.  I put all that info in and it comes up with this after I continue.

The installer has detected another version of SMF already installed with the specified information. If you are trying to upgrade, you should use the upgrader, not the installer.

Otherwise, you may wish to use different information, or create a backup and then delete the data currently in the database.

Click here to try this step again.

After that I can't get back to that screen to input the info (I could if I deleted all the files and recopied them but still get same error)

But after that it comes up with a log in screen (without pictures, all unformatted) and I can't log in with any username and password.

What am I doing wrong??

The sql database I am putting in is a joomla database, but I don't think this is the problem.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Cheers,

Wendell

*note* the first time I tried to set this up it did go to another screen and ask me to put the username and password of admin in, but then firefox crashed.  I don't know what files it overwrote so I can't get to this.  The files were not in the /forums folder because I tried to delete and recopy all of these 3 times.

Have you tried deleting all the files off your server using FTP and then starting again fresh?

yes, I deleted all the files under the /forum section and then copied the new files to it to do the process again, and same problem.  Did that 3 times.

Kindred

it is detecting the existing tables in your database...

if you want a fresh install for real, go to your database and drop all of the tables that start with smf_

I logged on to my joomla database and all I have is these:
jos_ is the extension my sql db provider has given me.  Should I delete these?  I don't want to mess up the current joomla install that is there.  Thats all that is there, and it doesn't look like any of the following are part of smf (except the jsmf which is the add-in and doesn't have any of the smf db info in it yet)

Orstio

You should never install SMF with the same prefix as Joomla.  They can reside in the same database without the same prefix.

QuoteAfter I copy the files over to my website/forum and I go to it, it ask me for all my db info.  I put all that info in and it comes up with this after I continue.

At this step, type in "smf_" where you currently have "jos_".

That isn't working some reason.  It looks like it is still using the old information. (the one I set up originally)

Got it working, there was some smf jos_ stuck..  I waited a while and it worked.  Thanks for all your helps!
