Strange characters after synching with Joomla

I've tried joomlahacks JSMF-component and that seems to be working pretty well. Unfortunately I've got these strange characters instead of my åäö as we use in Sweden.
If I write a new post the characters work fine when running latin1, but how do I change the imported threads ?!?

Also, how do I change coalliation in phpmyadmin for many tables at the same time ?
