Please forgive my newbie status.

Hello & thank you for providing this rersource, contributing & looking at this thread.

I believe I broke my site (cobaltboatsforum.com)

I'm the administrator & was looking into a way to change the redundant site titles.

For example, in two places on the home page, it lists the site title.   I was looking to change one of them to something else.

Anyway, I added a phrase to one of the fields in the site configuration page to read "your business name could go here!"  and suddenly every link to other things on the forum show up as "the page could not be displayed"

...and the address appears to be http://your business name could go here!/index.php?board=16.0

I cannot log back into the site to fix it and do not have a way to change what I did due to the problem.

Can this be fixed easily?

It goes without saying that I feel like an idiot for making a change like this without knowing exactly what the results would be.  I've learned my lesson & am ever-grateful to someone who can help fix my site.

I did download the file (on your suggestion) but perhaps I'm not using it correctly.

The terminology used is not clear to me either. Specifically, the instructions say to "simply upload the file."

I can only download the file, I cannot upload anything to the site and I cannot log into it either.

According to the directions, I just need to put the following into the navigation bar: hxxp:www.cobaltboatsforum.com/forum/repair_settings.php [nonactive]

The error "page could not be found was the result".

I think I'm stuck on how to upload the file to the root directory of my forum with FTP. Can someone tell me how this is done?

Thanks again for any clarification you can provide...

You will have to upload the repair_settings.php file to your server space, in the same directory where your smf files are. You can upload it with a Ftp client. How do I use FTP? / What is FTP? Then point your favorite browser to the file. I.e. www.yoursite.com/forum/repair_settings.php and click on the recommended values.

Note. ''forum'' stands for the directory where your smf files are located. If they are located to another directory, type the name of that directory instead of ''forum''.
Or, if your smf files are in the root directory, then you should simply point your browser to www.yoursite.com/repair_settings.php

Hope this helps. If you have any more questions, just let us know
