trouble with board permissions

i have a member group named "banned". i have one board on my forum that i want them to be able to see when logged in, and no others. this member group can only read posts, not reply or start new ones, or edit profile or do pm's. i want them to be able to read the posts in the board i moved all their posts to.

anyway.. i have tried setting permissions locally for the boards i do not want them to see.. and its not working. i select it to only be seen by all member groups but that 'banned' one.. but banned can still see it.

i also tried to change the global settings to be only for specific member groups.. and that too is not working. i'm not sure what i am doing wrong.

the member group in the members profile is selected as the primary.

any ideas?

"All Members" literally means all members.  I've been considering changing it back to "ungrouped members" so it's like permissions and can get around this problem.

but.. i dont have 'all members' clicked.

i have only the member groups i want to see it clicked.

i have my 'news' board set to local. then i have selected only certain member groups (not guests or all members) to see it. my 'banned' group cannot, by rights, see it. but when i'm logged in as 'banned' i can still see it.

i'm not sure why, because i have staff boards that only gmods and admin can see, and thats fine

Your banned members are still in post groups, aren't they?

i found the problem. "haunted" is the primary member group (post count based - our board is zero post counts for everyone).

i had 'haunted' checked as could see it. i unchecked it and was successful at not allowing 'banned' to see it but then all the other members who are not in groups (not staff, not other custom member groups) could not see the board either. i dont really want to put every member in a specific group, i just want a way to exclude a certain group from viewing a certain board, rather than allowing groups. since there is a way to prevent guests from viewing the boards, it would be nice to be able to exclude other member groups from viewing boards.

i dont know, i might be the only one who would use this.

Just as I said, this is a problem and I'm already looking into it.

Any updates on this?  I am having very very similar problems and cannot, after quite a number of days now, resolve it :(

Is this issue solved or do you still require assistance?

Are you using the latest version of SMF?
Any Mods installed?
Are you using a custom theme?
Any errors in the error logs? Apache, PHP, SMF?
