Upgrading 1.0.7 safely?

Hi,
I've just started a forum 4 days ago, so still very new to this software. It's SMF 1.0.7 which I was directed to from the Lycos server. The forum already has quite some members and messages, and I like to upgrade to the latest version here, but I don't want to do anything wrong and lose any messages or information or worse. Is there anyone who can guide me through this? Thanks in advance

Do you want to upgrade to SMF 1.0.9 or to SMF 1.1?
You can get the upgrade pacakge from
http://www.simplemachines.org/download/
And follow the instructions.
