For some reason i tried changing the password in the server and  settings for the site. Now all i get is the SMF can't connect to the server. I am afraid i messed up real bad. Is there anything i can do to fix this? Anyhelp is appreciated.

you can re-edit the Settings.php file manuallly to correct the database information.

you can also use repair_settings.php (What is repair_settings.php?)

Don't the SMF have to connect to the database to do this? That is the problem i am encountering. Has been that way since i did this.

Also I didn't set up this forum. A friend did and i don't have SMF on my PC. Does that make a differance.

you are going to have to FTP the file from the webserver you are using, make the changes to match the new password in a raw text editor, then re-upload it (write it over the old one).

that is your URL, but the files for your site are elsewhere.

I will save you some trouble.....

HostMonster.Com
is your host, so I am assuming you either registered or paid them to host your site?

What you need to do is log into your account there and access FTP for your website - most hosting companies will allow you to do this via an applet or will have a detailed FAQ on FTP access.

If you don't have an FTP client, I suggest filezilla - easy to use and free.

Okay i didn't set up the site. Can i log onto my account with my site there or is it the account that set up the site.

starkfu

it is going to have to be the account that controls the website.

So whoever set it up for you is going to have to give you the login info, or do the FTP transaction.

if you cant access the site files or have someone who can, then there will be nothing you can do.  Your host may be able to help you get access to the files, however.  you might ask if they have a backup copy of Settings.php from when it was working they can restore.

repair_settings.php once uploaded can change the database connection information.

Either way, if the Settings.php doesn't get restored with the proper information, your board cannot work.

Talked to them. Unfortunately they can't reset it without the password for the account. I should of set it up myself and not have someone else do it for me. Thanks for all your help

Sorry we can't help a bit better.  Our hands are as tied as yours are :(

Good luck getting that info
